THE LANDING
The Landing is a food distribution ministry of the Akron Christian Reformed Church The Landing is a community gathering where we all land on equal ground. Some of us need food. Some of us need to put our hands to work and stop worrying about life. We all need friendship and hope. We gather with different needs but land in the
same place.
Every Friday 1 pm to 3 pm
We have been sharing food with our neighbors for thirteen years. We welcome 140 to 160 guests every week and allow them to shop for their own food. We typically offer many dry goods, toiletries, bread, produce, deserts and meat. The exact choices vary from week to week according to what we can purchase and order at the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank.
On Friday morning our volunteers go to the foodbank to pick up the food. We get nearly 5,000 pounds every week. We then unload the truck by sliding the boxes down the steps on tables. It is then arranged on the shopping tables.
We can't do this work without a great deal of volunteer help from the church and from the neighborhood. Our volunteers find this work to be rewarding and often say that they look forward to helping at The Landing.
